there is something so special about a brand new year...

that and holidays, we had two weeks off, full of blissful days in the sun, reading books, playing with our niece and nephews...and then those sneaky moments where es and i started scheming and jotting down our ideas for this brand new year.

so with our office full of notes, inspiring pictures, and to do lists, all i'm going to say is that sydney better look out, 2012 is the year of the sisters!

glad to share it with you, and hoping this is YOUR year too.

so there are a few things that i love about christmas...one is walking through the shops, seeing all the window displays, christmas goodness dripping from every surface.

this year, however, it's been one of those christmas' that seems to have flown right past me...and normally when all my presents are wrapped and ready for under the tree, they are still in my mind, in list form, ready for a free day to shop...

so, i decided i would put together, 10 things...10 things that i loved, and love, friends who are totally talented, and all of which you could easily order or buy for your friends and family this christmas.

all i know is that when we were growing up, my favourite thing to do on holidays and on weekends, was wander around the garden, picking flowers and pressing them in my mums flowerpress. so for nostalgic reasons i saw these are NEEDED them in my store!

we just love this time of year!

we cant help it!

we cant decide if its all things sparkly in our shop window, draping and creating a christmas dream;

or if its the fresh wreaths hanging everywhere in the shop;

or if its the customers purchasing all the gorgeous, glass, wooden and tin decorations we have for sale,

or the fresh christmas trees that we are delivering (eek! all old school christmas like!!)

or the fact that we get to have input into making a customers christmas one to remember...

its warm...

everything in store just seems so bright...

all the gorgeous spring flowers are here...

freesias, ranunculas, poppies, rhodadendron, sweetpeas, daisies, daffodils...oh boy...i could list things all day...

and, besides all our amazing flowers, it seems the spring air is not just in our hearts but also, well and truly in our minds...

we have been going crazy making plans for the next few months..and with esther's mind full of new ideas from abroad and me just as excited...all i can say is watch this space...

i've said this before but one of the best parts of my job is all the people you meet.

actually, caitlin started here a few weeks back and mentioned how engadine is so friendly and everyone says hello etc... and its true, every morning as i setup the shop, people greet me and visa-versa, not a morning goes by that i don't stop and have a yarn with a passer by...

but today was a special day, i probably would have passed this old man a million times but this morning he stopped, i stopped and we chatted.

and he had such an incredible tale to tell.

...he served our country years ago, and upon his return home, he was met with the reality that his wife was gone. she left. so what does this man do? everyday he goes to the newsagent and buys her a card, or pops into go-lo and buys her a gift, all of which he stores. he tells me he is going to find her. that he loves her. i asked him where she is. he doesn't know. maybe new zealand? maybe in perth? even in europe. 'but i'll find her.'...he reassures me....'i'll find her, cause i love her.'

so its so cold here...in the shop that is...not complaining...no sir reee! just had a hot pot of tea delivered and hot water bottle in my lap...i thought i'de hit you up with something to read seeings its such perfect perusing weather!

so much to tell!

well mothers day has been and gone...it always seems like after this time of year the shop looks neglected...

empty shelves...mildy unorganised...so esther and i had a huge cleanout, painted the walls, and the roof, bought some new lighting (which is still on the to do list...industrial lights it is for a while!), ordered new stock...POTS!! so many gorgeous pots (ill pop some pics up)

so the shop is looking full and gorgeous again, all in time for esther joy to go overseas!

yep, she is travelling the world for 2 months! camera in hand to take pictures of all the floral delight she trawls over while she is away...i made her promise me overseas inspiration upon her return and plenty of pictures so we can all get inspired!!

CAN'T WAIT!!

upon esther's departure, not long after a very dear friend will be starting here...caitlin barrett! the cutest, most lovely friend, she's practically one of us...so she joins the sisters team!

would it be creepy to post a pic?? nah...

we are also in the making of a new logo and then in turn a website refurb!! im so excited about that...i'm holding onto so many photos of the latest weddings we have done, so when the new website is up you'll all get to peruse them.

two things happened this week, our cheeky little nephew, Charlie, turned 2, and our sister brought a beautiful little treasure into the world, little Oscar.

we love these little people, but we love the big people behind them more than they would know. the mummas. both of our sisters are extraordinary mothers, patient and encouraging, and we know for a fact put everything they want aside for their families....and so thats why we love mothers day! a whole day put aside to give credit to the amazing women holding the hands of the worlds future doctors, leaders, teachers and business owners!

{a little shout out to our mumma too, she's the one who makes us the cups of tea when our little eyes getting droopy, delivers all the mothers out there their floral love, and she's the one who calls on sunday afternoon promising a hot dinner and cuddles upon arrival at home...we love you ma!}

i'm not even supposed to be here, but i've popped into the store to pick up a wedding to deliver, and i had a few minutes to spare, so i thought i'de write some florally love to peruse over the long weekend!

i haven't the time nor the internet usage space to upload all the delightful pictures i have in my hot little hands (es, you ought to be proud), but i'll give you a heads up as what to expect to see on the blog soon...

2 weekends ago we headed to KURRAJONG HEIGHTS for cherie and ben's wedding...think pouring rain all the way there, esther and i walking around in no shoes (shoes were soaked) and think carful loads of hydrangea! plus the most incredible place EVER!

so i'll put some lovely shots of that up...

plus kath sent me some pictures from their wedding a while back, so i'll pop them up too!

annnddd! mothers day is just around the corner (quite literally) so i'll put up some inspiration to leave up on the computer screen for a clueless husband or child:)

POPPIES FOR GRACE ARE IN!! they sat in the corner of the shop for a whole day, and i had to write a to do list with opening the poppies for grace box as a reward once i had done everything!

so one of the most rewarding things about this job, is the people we get to connect with, weddings, funerals or people that you meet, that love what you do and love your store and who become more than ‘that lady that buys hydragea everyweek’ they become friends.

we received a Christmas card from a dear friend/customer in the middle of the silly season, amongst the long hours, pretty lights, and shop full to the brim of all things christmas, it just nice to stop and realise we really do have the best job in the WORLD!.

{i might add there wasn't a dry eye in engadine florist the day the post lady popped in this little treasure}

so the last few weeks of the year were a complete blur of long hours, exciting new stock coming in, and planning for the last of 2010!

a few very exciting things took place...let me share.

two of our dearest friends, stephanie and javed, got married! in the beautiful little land (and i truly mean 'land', hidden off the freeway, a place that looks like town folk just picked up and left..it was so pretty and untouched and the most perfect place for a declaration of love), called catherine hill bay. so we went up, spent 2 days setting up and making the place perfect, and then dashed to the wedding, only to drink, eat and have the most incredible time celebrating love!

{so i couldn't resist, i feel everyone needs to see how magical it was. enjoy}

the other thing that blew my mind at the ending of 2010, was the most memorable and life-altering trip, to uganda.

let me tell you how this came to be.

the beginning of the year, one of my dear friends, caitlin, was involved in a foundation setup by an incredibly talented athlete (and another dear, dear friend) eloise! and i was asked to be on board with a foundation.

the foundation started when eloise had an ongoing injury, she travelled to portland where she met fellow athlete, julius achon! what formed that day was an incredible friendship and and the beginnings of the love mercy foundation!

on one of his routine runs, julius found 11 orphans hiding in a bus shelter, these children, who had been effected by africa’s longest running war, were without food, clothing, housing or education, with some of the children unable to remember even their own names. from that day on, julius took the children on as his own family.

when eloise knew his incredible story, she knew that people back home would help!

and its love mercy's vision, to not only support the orphans (which of now over 30 are sponsored) but also work along side the women in uganda, with a seeds programme.

for every one off donation of $25, it provides a 10k lot of seeds to a woman in uganda, once the seeds have been planted, grow and are harvested, will yield approx 100kgs of seed, then the original gift of 10kgs is passed on to the next woman in need.

so as you can tell (re giving the whole history-and let me tell you i can talk all day about it!) i am so excited about what love mercy is doing!

soooo, i went over in november (dear es, help the fort up!) and visited all the beautiful orphans, we went to numerous villages where we hope to run the seeds project this year and explained it all to them and we went to the village where the first lot of seeds were distributed! and all i can say is that the trip was life changing, driving into the village, with these women, in their best dress to see us, singing on the top of their voice to welcome us, its a moment that will stay in my mind forever!

so goodbye 2010...thankyou for the wealth of knowledge you gave, for the joyous memories made in a little shop in engadine and mostly for ending the year with perspective that for so little, whether it be a donation for a woman in uganda, a smile to a walker-by, or the time of day and a helping hand for the people around us in the community...they are a all small step in making the world a better place!

so its a reoccurring thing...i think blog all month...great things to show you, ideas, cute things we have done...and then before i know it its the end of the month and i'm uploading pictures i took weeks ago.

better late than never right?

we have been such a busy pair though this month! we did a shop window campaign for 'Wanted Shoes', for their launch of Siren shoes for Melbourne cup...very fun...driving all over Sydney...surprising wanted shoes staff with gorgeous vases to team with gorgeous shoes! (i will see if i can find some pictures to show and tell.x)

plus the amazing warm weather brings a number of beautiful brides into the store perusing our designs to make there wedding days ones to remember,

and so these are my excuses this month for the delay of the eye candy i promised...
